I had my tranny and torque converter flushed a few months back... I wanted to make sure I wasn`t screwed though... I gave him 16 quarts of oil although I think my tranny (4L60) plus torque converter only takes 11.2... I got back 4 quarts which means he used 12... I hoping he just kept the other .8 quarts... I went ahead and checked the Royal purple MAX tranny fluid oil from one of those left over quarts with what was in the truck and the oil in my tranny is a slight bit darker... can hardly tell when compared with what came out of a fresh bottle of RP Max ATF... is this normal... would it be a little bit darker `dirtier` because it has been used in the tranny?

Normal, it`s only purple when it`s fresh and quickly changes color. So I`d say it`s just fine.

I guess let me clarify... it was a slight slight slight difference... could really only tell when you really look at it... the tranny oil looked a little less pink then the fresh stuff did... thanks again guys...

lol... redish pink would be a good description of Dexron.
Blackish would be what royal purple would look like after the die fades. VERY big difference between the two.

I always knew the dexron was a light red/pinkish in color and I was under the impression that that`s how the tranny fluid should look. But the royal purple atf turns black? That`s weird.

All ATF are red (pink as some say) even royal purple and the color will be a bit darker due to the fact that even if you flush 100% of you trans fluid you will always have some small left over residue from the old fluid causing that slight color difference specially if the fluid you had before was very dirty. I use Royal Purple on my truck too and trust me it works awesome

will the tranny oil turn a "used" dark reddish brown color when it needs to be changed? ANother words is there any way to know when to change it... kind of like you know when to change motor oil by looking at it?
