I`ll be running the 212/218 with 531" 534" of lift on a 112 lsa, it has great manners for a daily driver. I just saw a dyno sheet on a 5.3 crew cab that just had that cam, long tubes, and an intake and it made 312 to the wheels. They usually run about $350 new, but if you look around the classifieds you can usually find one for around $250.
Theres actually a great write up on a cam install on ls1tech.com, dosen`t seem to hard at all.

Yeah I actually went on that site and read into it a bit. It doesn`t seem real bad but definitely a weekend job probably. And it`s one of those things that since your there you might as well replace other things like the timing chain. I think it`d be a lot easier to do it on our trucks versus a camaro or firebird with the ls1 just for room and space but who knows. I had a lt1 trans am and it was a pain to work on that. Hours to change plugs is just crazy. That`s why you gotta love trucks. But as far as a cam goes I just want something to give me a gain in power and a nice choppy idle sound. It`s my daily driver and nothing more but I like to step on it now and then just like everyone else. 312 only? I thought our trucks were rated at like 285 stock then plus intake exhaust headers I figured you`d have to be close to that before the cam install. Maybe I`m confused. The deepest I`ve ever gone is doing upper and lower intake man gaskets on my 97 so I`m not too experienced.

I went on patriotperformance.com I think it`s called, and found a bunch of good parts that made me wish and drool.. there was a kit there for a couple grand that made like 450 or 550 hp. Cam with heads cam intake etc. That would just be insane. Not sure how it`d affect your gas mileage and what all else you`d have to do with the tranny or gears but it definitely makes your mind wander a bit.

Our trucks are rated at 285 hp at the crank, that dyno reading was 312 to the wheels. With about 20% parasitic drivetrain loss that means your stock truck is putting out about 228hp to the wheels. 84 horsepower with just a tune, headers, and cam is damn good. You would def feel the power then.
I agree there is alot of room in these trucks, and once you start digging into the internals and pulling the heads all that extra room helps out.

Oh I got ya.. then 84 more horsepower is real good for just an intake, cam, long tubes, and a tune. Is that a comp cam then or what brand? It doesn`t require anything to be done to the tranny or anything else? Just a straight swap and it`s good to go other than getting the tune adjusted?

yep this grind is a comp cam, and all you need is the cam, yellow ls6 springs and hardened pushrods. I think you can even get away with using the stock pushrods if you want, but its nice insurance to upgrade for about 80 bucks.
The tranny you don`t HAVE to up grade, but with the increase in power your gonna at least wanna do vette servos and and a shift kit. The 60e`s are crap at stock hp, much less with all the added hp.
What tuner are you going with?

I`ll have to try to find that one online somewhere and check it out. Do the yellow ls6 springs come with it or is that something you have to buy separate like the pushrods? Would it make any difference to switch out the rockers and all that since your right there?
The tranny I would def like to upgrade to make it last, especially when you start making more power. I just can`t do any of the tranny stuff myself and I`m not too sure how much some of that stuff would cost to be installed. I want to do the vette servo and found it from oregon performance for $15. I should have the 4L60E transmission right? Also, what shift kit would be good to get? Is that another part that is on the cheaper end for labor install like the vette servo? I remember hearing that certain cams it`s a must that you have a higher stall.
I think I`m going to call Nelson and talk to them and more than likely go with them for the tune. The next things on my list now are the tune and an intake kit. I`ll probably try to do them at the same time so I don`t have to send the tune back for a re tune after doing the intake. I`d just rather have everything dialed in real good. I looked through their list online of what they can change and I really have no idea on a lot of the stuff. Any recommendations?

How much h.p. do you think my 2000 2500 w/ a 6.0 has? My dad was saying that stock it had 393 h.p. Does that sound correct?
Where can you get them dino tested at?

They springs come separate and can be had for bout 60 bucks brand new on ebay, and as far as the rockers go unless you go to the extreme with the cam the stock ones run just fine.
You do have the 60e and go ahead and order the vette servo from oregon performance, any tranny shop will be able to install the servo for about 35-50 bucks. Nelson performance charged me 35 since I got it from them.
On the shift kit go with the Trans Go hd-2 shift kit, this with the servos will be a night and day difference on the way your truck shifts.
Depending on the cam you select you will have to upgrade your torque converter, that cam I selected is pretty mild and works fine with the stocker but once you start moving that power band up in the 3k range and higher a bigger stall is needed.
When your ready for a tune just give Nelson performance a call or email them and tell them exactly what you want out of the truck. They will spec out your tune to your exact needs.

I think the correct number is 345hp at the crank, as far as the dyno you may have to check with the local shops in your area to find the closest one.

Yeah I`m going to give nelson a call here soon along with getting the s&b intake. After that I think I`m going to do the transmission stuff. I`ll order the vette servo from oregon and get that installed but as far as the shift kit goes, where do you buy that at? Any ideas on a price for installing something like that? I imagine if I do the servo and shift kit at the same time it`d probably be cheaper. Also, would that sort of stuff make any impact on mpg?
I need to change out the tranny fluid too so this might be a good time to get that done as well.
