160 deg thermostat

Runs cooler than I expected. With the
Blower installation I wanted to make sure I didn't run too hot, otherwise a
180 deg thermostat would have probably
been best.

4.10 Gears
10/20/2004
Since the 4L60E tranny is an overdrive transmission, I think I could have gotten away with 4.56 gears and still been OK on the tach at legal freeway cruising speeds. Rear-end gear set is
completely quiet (But don't forget the magic "additive" if you want your posi-traction to lock and un-lock properly).
Front-end gear set is noisier than stock on pavement. Sounds normal in the dirt and snow.

4L60E Transmission Cooling Pan
10/20/2004
I picked this one because I wanted a little bit of extra transmission cooling when I'm towing, but I was kind of paranoid about running cooling lines to a fragile heat exchanger/radiator. This one has cooling tubes built right into the pan itself.

Aluminum differential cover
10/20/2004
This does nothing other than "Hint" that the rear-end gears have been changed. The drain plug makes those once-in-a-lifetime gear oil changes easier. I went with a thick aluminum
housing instead of the common stamped
chrome type because I've seen too many
of them leaking on other trucks.

Aluminum Rims
10/20/2004
These 15-inch rims actually came off my older truck. I'm out of style, but I still can't get used to the look of huge rims with rubber band tires on lifted trucks. When a truck is lowered, the sports car look makes more sense.

Billet grill
10/20/2004
A quality product, but be warned that this wasn't a bolt-on installation. Lights are removed, stock grill shell removed, plastic GMC grill is hacksawed out, grill shell is then filed, sanded, drilled and painted before the Billet grill is bolted in place.

JBA Shorty headers bolted right up to the stock exhaust. No leaks and their California Smog legal. I went with Ceramic coating.

Cool Air Intake Kits w/Box
10/20/2004
I picked Volant because it included a
sealed filter box that takes cool air
from the outside rather than the hot
engine compartment. No noticable performance gain at street speeds.

Ported Throttle body

Ported throttle body is 1/8 inch bigger

Allows me to actually measure any HP or ET gains when I add new mods. I hoped my truck was quicker than 15.50's in the 1/4 mile, but that's what this thing measures and I believe it.

You can definitly feel the difference at every one of the 5 position settings on these Rancho 9000'S. I like the 4th setting (5th setting feels even too stiff for my liking). My Wife hates any setting higher than a 2.

Shifts a little harder than I wanted while driving at normal speeds. Breaks 'em loose in 2nd Gear and kicks the backend sideways at WOT, just like I wanted. This is gonna be even more fun when I add a floor shifter.

Steel Cowl Induction Hood
10/20/2004

A perfect fit (at least when the engine was stock). I had to cut an 8-inch rectangular hole in the inside cross member to clear the top of the
Blower, but I was neat about it so it came out OK.
