JET Performance Products Plugs in up to an 18 horsepower gain for the 2.8 and 3.5L Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon engines
If you are a 2004-2006 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon owner and looking for a power upgrade, chances are you've probably encountered some challenges finding products that can actually add increase power in the modern in-line GM engines. For the longest time the junior GM truck models have always been one of the hardest to find engine performance upgrades for. It seems the big brother full-size models always seem to get the attention. Not any more. JET Performance Products has recently developed two new performance modules for the 2004-2006 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon with the 2.8 and 3.5L engines. These easy-to-install in-line tuning devices install between the factory computer and wiring harness while providing performance gains of up to 18 horsepower.
JET's Colorado/Canyon Performance Module provides several modified parameters such as changes to the ignition advance and air/fuel ratio. The JET Performance Module will increase horsepower, torque and improve overall throttle response which will become evident over the stock performance. The great thing about these plug-in modules is they are easily installed by anyone in less than 30 minutes.
We stopped by JET to find out more about this new product and watched as owner Bryant Seller first dynoed a 2005 Chevy Colorado 3.5L crew cab pickup to establish the stock performance numbers. Then Bryant installed the JET Performance Module into the factory computer and ran the truck on the dyno again to prove the increase in power. Based on the Mustang Chassis Dyno chart, a peak horsepower gain of 19 horsepower was achieved at around 5,000 rpm while an overall average horsepower increase was around 15 horsepower across the board. With so many performance limitations with these new in-line motors, getting that much of a horsepower increase was pretty impressive for a simple plug-and-play module.
To see just how easy it is to install the Performance Module, check out the following photos and final dyno chart to get an idea if your mid-size GM truck would be a good candidate for this quick and easy performance upgrade.

Here is the JET Performance Products power control module that is a simple plug and play chip which installs onto the factory computer. | To verify the gains, the 2005 Chevy Colorado with a 3.5L motor was ran on the dyno to establish baseline factory numbers across the power band. | The factory computer is located on the passenger side firewall and features three harness attachments. |
After disconnecting the battery cable, the three harnesses are removed from the computer. | Once the harnesses are removed, the computer is released from the plastic clipped cradle and removed as shown. | On the work bench, the new JET Performance Products power control module is inserted into the center computer harness port. |
When installed properly, this is what you should see. Make sure the module is completely installed into the port. | Now the computer and module are installed back into the firewall cradle and the harnesses plugged back into the computer. The center harness connection attaches directly to the power control module. | With the battery power cable reattached the truck is warmed back up and ran several times on the Mustang Chassis Dyno to record the new horsepower gains achieved with the JET Performance Products power control module. |
As you can see from the dyno chart there is a substantial power increase right out of the gate and maintains an increase throughout the entire power band. The peak horsepower gain achieved was 19 horsepower while the average across the power band was 15 horsepower. | | |
