We've listed all of the hottest suspension lift kits to raise your Chevy/GMC truck and SUV to a higher level.
Not all of us can live with a stock suspension system. At one point or another, we feel the need to change something on our truck’s or SUV’s suspension system, be it to improve its handling or towing capabilities or simply to improve its overall appearance to what we would like our truck to be. Some of us like our trucks lifted, while others like it lowered. Either way, there are a multitude of aftermarket components that can help make that happen.
Lift kits are one of the most popular as they raise the vehicle anywhere from three to eight inches, depending on the kit. This modification requires that you investigate any lift kit that you are contemplating to install. Keep in mind that the cost of the lift kit and the installation is only half of the entire job. Most of the time lifting your truck or SUV is only part of the entire upgrade. The second part will involve installing taller Wheels and tires. This is always a good area to start. Find out what size Wheels and Tires you want to install on your truck and work backwards to finding the right lift kit to fit your application.
Because of the popularity of lift kits, there are many suspension lift manufacturers and not all vehicles are alike. Fortunately, most Chevy trucks feature an independent front suspension and several 2007 models use a coil –over shock suspension system. For most of these vehicles, you will find kits that include lift spindles and coil springs along with high-performance shocks for the front, and either new Leaf Springs or coil springs, with blocks when necessary, for use in the rear.
Another important factor to keep in mind when researching your Chevy’s lift kit. Some kits require cutting and modifications to the chassis while others do not. Some systems will require modifications to the front differential on independent front axle, and are not reversible. Other systems can be bolted on without any modifications whatsoever and can be completely removed if necessary. The best way to find out which system is best for you is to fully understand which suspension systems are available for your vehicle and comparing them part by part.
Our suggestions are to look for systems that are as complete as possible. Many systems come complete with all of the hard components such as springs and brackets, but require you to purchase the shocks, brake line hoses and other accessories separately. Another key item to look for is the amount of suspension travel. The more travel, the smoother the ride will be and the better articulation you will have on some extreme off-road situations. Finally, take a trip to several 4x4 install facilities and ask the installers what kits they recommend. Many will point you in the right direction and give you some insight as to which systems work better over the life of your vehicle.
